I was in the process of putting a TCO analysis together comparing SharePoint Search + our product Longitude versus the Google Search Appliance when I noticed that Google has just removed pricing of the GSA from their website. I think this is the first of several moves we'll being seeing from Google's Enterprise division. I applaud Google for trying to be as transparent as possible, but publishing your prices does have a downside in that competitors can use this information in any number of ways including the way I mention above. My guess is that Google's next move will be to offer a software only version of the GSA. Time will tell.
